Holds that get dropped

Lately, we have noticed a larger incidence of holds that should be here but are not even on the patron's account. Today, Louise and I found a situation where a hold placed in iBistro was apparently accepted when "changeme" was put in as the PIN, where in fact "changeme" was not the patron's real PIN.

This particular hold was on a particular volume of a multi-volume record. We were not able to duplicate it on another type of record (i.e. single volume), and yet we feel that there have been more dropped holds than this would account for by itself.

What we would like to do is, if a patron comes up to say their hold did not get here and you find that there was no hold on the book, write down the title and test placing a hold on it through iBisro using "changeme" on your own account (we are assuming every ref staff member has changed their PIN to something other than "changeme!"). Let us know on the blog if you find one where it appears to take the hold rather than saying the PIN is wrong.
