How to Print 2 PDF pages on 1 page

I found this website that gives step by step instructions on printing pdf documents 2 per page. This is really helpful for people who have to print an entire manual or something that is a bunch of pages and would normally cost an arm and a leg.

Printer Tip

Barbara Sez:

Sarah was here today to fix some computers and she also fixed the color printer. It seems that the paper bind was off track by just a little and that is what was causing all the noise. Please, do not pull the drawer all the way out when putting in paper.

Sick PCs - Leave Monitor Up

Hi There -
Sarah reminded us, if possible, leave sick/weird acting pc screens "up" and place "PC is Under the Weather" sign atop 'em. In this manner, IT can log in remotely and try and fix the problem.

SAM People

Some folks from the SAM company visited NP this morning. It seems they will be working closely with our IT staff on training so we can use SAM functions better, etc. A woman in the group who's the filter expert fixed the problem with A05 so adults can use it with unfiltered access. I also mentioned the thing on the copier that hasn't worked in a year and they were aware of it. . . .

mouse pads

The replacement mouse pads live in the second drawer of the file cabinet next to the desk in the lab (not the lateral file). The drawers in that cabinet stay unlocked.

Any time you see mouse pads looking a little grubby, feel free to grab one from the drawer as a replacement!

The upside-down screen strikes again!

Just FYI: If you ever run into a public PC with an upside-down screen, the quick fix it CTRL-ALT and the up arrow.

NP-PUB-A002

Computer 002 may give you a scary hard drive error message. IT knows about the problem; a replacement is in our future. Hit "F1" and it should go on to boot up. If it dies, put a sign on it.

Fun with Printers

Wednesday night, Asberry will adjust the shelf across from the Info Desk and switch that printer with the one in the lab. On Thursday, Sarah (and Chris?) will re-image the public PCs to straighten out the what-prints-where problem.

Quickskill CD-Roms

The Quickskill CD-Roms don't run on our public PCs not because our version of Shockwave is too old, but because it's too new.

Patrons can use the disks at home because they will be able to accept the message to load the older version of Shockwave.

CTRL-ALT-DEL

So a patron used the CTRL-ALT-DEL trick to lock her PC when she went to the bathroom. Barbara had to unlock it, though, with one of those long passwords (starts with C, ends with 02*). :-( I did a TrackIt to find out if this function is supposed to be available to the public; I will keep you posted.

IT News

IT folks will be here either tomorrow or Thursday 2/1 to deploy the new image on the public PCs. The image will include IE7 and the latest version of Adobe Acrobat. The latter, patrons have needed for a while; the former may confuse and frighten timid internet surfers . . . . IT will hook up the new color printer, too.

The last of our big, clunky monitors will be replaced with flat screens in the next couple of weeks.
