Celeb Reading

Is knowing what celebrities are reading the hot new thing?

Here's Obama's Shelfari -- not one that he keeps up, but one built of titles he's know to have read.

And here's what The Boss reads.

Noteworthy Blogs

As we gear up to be more connected in 2009, LISNews offers this list of top library blogs. (Shout out to Mike for drawing it to my attention!)

I already enjoy "Society for Librarians Who Say...." Be warned: it exists to air gripes, and it does include bad language. If you don't like that sort of thing, give it a miss.

David Lee King has two interesting posts that force us to reconsider how we pitch our serivce. Do we treat the users of some services worse than those who use "traditional" services? Here's the first post, and here's a follow up.

Are there any library blogs you read regularly?

New Web Tech

Lifestreaming, Chrome Browser, Location Awareness -- OH MY! Will these "6 New Web Technologies" be on our To Do list in 2009?

Like so many web 2.0-y things, it's not where most of our patrons are, but it's good stuff to know, in the interest of keeping up.

LOL

Yes, kitty, yes you can haz WorldCat! Just click on over to their page. Or, I like to use the Firefox browser feature that let's me switch between Google searches, WorldCat searches, and dictionary searches, all without opening a new page or tab.

Bibliography
You know about the LOL Cats book, right?
The other hot blogger with a new book deal is Jen of Cake Wrecks!
FOUND was one of the first blogs-into-books I knew about.
PostSecret is another good one: book, blog.
Oh, wait, The Gallery of Regrettable Food was from a blog, wasn't it? Maybe not; James Lileks does blog, but I guess the Gallery was more of an online exhibit than a blog.

2.0

"Ministry 2.0" article, here. The conference organizer explained, "We want to use Facebook and MySpace to reach people for Christ."

I feel so left behind!

Firefox

Thanks to peer-pressure from Matt over at TW, I have been dabbling with Google's Chrome browser lately. But I've been a dedicated Firefox user for a year or so. In fact, just last night I tried to show the step-kid how it's superior to IE for her high school work.

Well, obviously, I am a rank amateur, because out of this list of 20 tips for using Firefox for research, I knew how to do maybe 2 things!!
