21st Century Librarianship

Via Matt, this "Long Live the Librarian" blog article in which the author reminds us why librarians aren't needed, and why they are. On the latter topic:

Librarians, after all, have a lot going for them:

• They are trained in critical analysis of good information.
• They have experience in filtering and searching information.
• They are employed (read: paid) to work with information.
• They have access to more information than simply what’s online.
• They know how to work with people and ideas at the same time.

Area Library Option

Hello!

A patron was in yesterday and interested in a book we did not have.
Another local referral library is J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College Library at Parham.
You might not know that they accept community patrons. With a photo I.D. with their address they are able to get a library card to make them eligible for resources in the entire system.
